Adobe AIR with Ajax: Visual QuickPro Guide Update

I'm very happy to say that my latest book, Adobe AIR with Ajax: Visual QuickPro Guide, is off to the printer and should be available in early May. As I wrote in my newsletter, I'll also be doing a presentation on this topic in Nashville, TN, in June 2008.

    Forum Outage/Upgrade

The forum was out of commission for a couple of hours today while I upgraded it. As always, this took more effort than expected. I apologize for any inconvenience.

Building a Web Site with Ajax: Visual QuickProject Guide Released

My latest book, Building a Web Site with Ajax: Visual QuickProject Guide was released in August 2007. It provides a book-length tutorial on adding Ajax functionality to a site using PHP, MySQL, XHTML, CSS, and JavaScript. There's lots of usable-code that's cross-browser compliant! The URL for the book is http://www.dmcinsights.com/ajax/.

    Several Site Updates/Newsletter Archives Online

I've finally gotten around to making several updates to the Web site, adding references to new books, getting rid of outdated stuff. Hopefully I didn't break anything in the process. Also, if you're not subscribed to the newsletter, you can still see its contents through the newsletter archives. You have to be subscribed to the newsletter to qualify for a book giveaway, though.

    Forums Read-Only Over the Weekend

The forums will be set to read-only mode (i.e., you can't post) over the weekend while I transition to a new server. I apologize for any inconvenience.

    Email Address Changes

To cut down on the amount of spam I get, I'm getting rid of many email addresses. This includes my primary email address and the older book-specific ones. If you attempt to send an email to one of these, the message will be bounced back, indicating that you can find the correct address by visiting the site. My apologies for any inconvenience.

    Announcement: Larry Ullman's Newsletter/Mailing List

I have (finally) created a newsletter/mailing list as a way to regularly update readers. I intend to make this as useful as possible for the recipients: providing book updates, technology updates, interesting tips and tricks, etc. Also, all book giveaways will now be handled through this system. I highly encourage everyone to subscribe. For more information and to offer up your own suggestions, see this forum thread. Thanks! (P.S. Hopefully the newsletter software is working properly, but let me know if you encounter any problems.)

Larry to teach and develop PHP and MySQL Classes

I have developed a class called "PHP Programming with MySQL" for the training company ASPE Technology. This is a three-day class, based upon my "PHP and MySQL for Dynamic Web Sites: Visual QuickPro Guide" book. Although the basis and outline of the class is the same as the book, the class will offer tons of real-world examples and hands-on experience. Most of the examples will come from the students and you'll be able to ask questions specific to your needs. I am personally going to be teaching the first two classes, one in Denver, Colorado in July and another in Atlanta, Georgia in August. For more information, see the ASPE Technology page for this course. You can also email me if you have questions not addresses there (although I don't know when there might be other sessions and if/when I'll be teaching other sessions). Thanks!

    More Server Problems, UGH!!!

Once again, the server (and therefore the Web site) was down for the past 24 hours. I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. Even worse, it looks like I'm back on my quest to find reliable Web hosting (it took 5 phone calls and extra $$$ to get the server back up). This also means that I didn't receive any emails sent between the afternoon of Thursday, May 3rd (US Easter Time) and the afternoon of Friday, May 4th. If you sent an email in that time, please resend it (or just use the forum). My apologies again! Larry PS UPDATE: I've found the hosting company I will switch to, it's just a matter of waiting for the right time.

    Server Problems

Due to an update gone awry, the server and forums had some problems today. Things seem to be okay now. My apologies for any inconvenience.
